(a)DDL_006_ Organizing your thoughts and workflow can make the difference between failure and success!
Daily Activities
For the last couple of days, I have been searching around the Internet, searching for information for a vast amount of topics including:
Game publishing
Steam sales taxes
Story writing tools
After Effects tutorials
Writing style tips
Moving image techniques
Social media hacks
I should have known better, of course, but it is easy to get sucked in all this information, especially when you find it interesting!
Intended Results
Find information and solutions for many aspects of the game’s design and development.
Actual Results
Getting lost in tons of information on each topic and ending up not being sure how to proceed.
Time Spent
About two days of in depth research.
Tips
Create some kind of structure in a platform like Trello, or anything you find practical.
I have tried quite a lot of project management tools (if you follow this blog through you will see that I am a right-tool-for-the-right-job guy!) and although Trello lucks the depth of others; it is straightforward and visual, and I find it very useful. Here is an idea of my Task Timeline Board.
Notice that I don't try to map everything and too far in time, because it will get messy. I just need to have a clear idea of what I have to do this week. From experience I know that some of those tasks will roll to next week, and that is ok as long as it doesn't keep happening.
There is no one right way to organize a complex project, as long as it works for the people involved. Just make sure you don't get lost in the overall chaos and lose track of your goal.
